Lufthansa Senator Lounge Review Newark – EWR
Visiting a business class club at an airport is always a treat – and always extra special if it’s a Lufthansa Senator Lounge!
Lufthansa has facilities at two airports in New York City. The one at JFK is a flagship style lounge (it’s grand!) - but the one at Newark does a fabulous job as well.
Here’s a review of my recent visit
Lufthansa’s club at Newark is divided into two parts: The Senator Lounge and the Business Class Lounge. The Senator Lounge is the superior of the two. You need to have top tier frequent flyer status (HON Circle, Senator, or Star Alliance Gold) – or be flying First Class to gain access to the Senator part of the club (flying business class won’t cut it).
I was in First Class – and they actually had a section of the dining tables reserved exclusively for passengers in that cabin. It seemed a bit odd at the beginning...however, as the club filled up, I totally appreciated it. The place was packed – and the rest of the patrons respected the reserved signs – making the “First” part of the lounge feel more relaxed.
This lounge is compact – but still feels roomy. Part of that might have to do with the fact that there’s a large lighted mural of a forest on one of its walls (Lufthansa has similar greenery walls in many of it’s lounges worldwide). I know it’s not real – but it always makes me feel like I’m dining on a patio!
The lounge showcases a number of mod leather seating options – that seem to reference the inside of their upgraded business and first class cabins. They place definitely feels like a cool international airline club!
There were a LOT of beverage options in this lounge.
Of course, there was German beer on tap and other selections in bottles. But the showstopper was the extensive selection of spirits – and I mean extensive. The only thing missing for me (if I were to be ridiculously picky) was Drambuie...an odd liquor I admit – but one that I have found in many other Senator Lounges.
On top of this there were a lot of alcohol free options – including juices and premium bottled waters (San Pellegrino).
Lufthansa always has a great spread in their Senator Lounges!
On the regular buffet, they had a selection of salads, veggies, sandwiches, hummus, two soups (one of them Moroccan!), fruit, and sweets.
There was also a hot table that (oddly) feature a number of different scrumptious Chinese dumplings (I have a feeling they have theme nights and I was there on the Asian one).
The Senator Lounge in Newark does not have showers – there simply isn’t enough room for that in this facility.
The Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Newark is a great place to refuel, recharge, and catch up on emails before a transatlantic flight. I was impressed with the wide selection of drinks – and their hot and cold buffet. A great introduction to Lufthansa’s slick premium service!
