TGV First Class Review - Nice to Paris (NCE-PAR)
Rail in Europe is usually a slick, glamorous experience – especially if you’re in First Class on France’s mega high-speed TGV’s! It’s fabulous whisking along the stunning French countryside at 300km per hour!
And it’s not expensive, if you book far enough in advance. I snagged a premium seat for 10 Euro more than the cost of cramped coach class one.
Here’s a review of my recent journey on French Rail (SNCF).
Many of the trains between Nice and Paris are on double decker cars. I love them!
A seat on the second level lets you gaze for miles! And - for some reason, ascending between floors seems more elegant…a bit like flying the second deck of a Boeing 747.
First Class on my car featured 2 by 1 one seating (three seats across)...in multiple configurations.
I went for the solo seat as I was traveling alone – but other options included 1x1 seats facing each other with a table in between (perfect for a couple and a bottle of Veuve Cliquot!) – and foursome seating with a table.
The seats were wide and very comfortable. They all reclined – and, thankfully, came equipped with power to keep my laptop going all the way to Paris!
The TGV even had WiFi for most of the trip (except when going through mile long tunnels).
I especially liked the interactive map which tracked our progress and speed. The system even recognized that it was my first time clocking 300+km on French rail. SNCF sent me a message about this milestone as soon as the train accelerated to that speed!
I was in the quite car – which was a welcomed escape. And everyone respected the zone…no loud cell phone conversations or rowdy hen parties in this car!
First Class on the TGV is a fantastic way to commute between the south of France and the nation’s glittering capital!
Speedy but much more relaxing and glamorous than taking a flight! I would jump at the opportunity to travel between Nice and Paris on this service again!
