Landmark Vistas - Intercontinental Hotel Chicago Review - (ORD)
On my last trip to the Windy City, I searched for a hotel, both in the shopping district, and close to Millennium Park. The Intercontinental fit the bill!
What follows is a review of this spectacular hotel:
The glam started right away. While checking in, the assistant manager announced she was upgrading me to a corner room with a view – and what a view it was! (pictured at the very top of this post) – Wow! Look at that Wriggley Building!
How did I get upgraded? I collect rewards points with IHG. That gave me Gold Elite status, paving the way to this fabulous upgrade... and into the new wing of the hotel. (Thanks IHG!)
And what a room! Bright, mod, spacious, and smartly designed.
This has never happened to me before – I wanted to steal the couch! I'm a sucker for anything that looks remotely mid-century with orange accents. While I couldn't take it home, it did become the perfect perch for admiring the night views - with a glass of Cointreau from the mini-bar.
Updated and roomy. Its stone counter-tops helped cement a feeling of luxury. (Not being a geology expert, I have no idea whether it was marble or granite -- it simply looked expensive!)
Of particular note: the splendrous bath products from Agraria (of San Francisco). After my morning ablutions with those Lemon Verbena shampoos and gels, I was ready to hit the shops, smelling sensational!
Highlight Alert: You must visit the pool at the Intercontinental - even if you forget your swim suit!
Right out of the roaring twenties, with its ornate tiles and archways, this magical space made me feel like I was in "The Great Gatsby." Who knows – perhaps this was party central during prohibition - perhaps plenty of gin made its way into that giant pool!
You can't drink there today- but you can still soak up the ambiance from the viewing area, and imagine the echo of clinking martini glasses, the fizz-pop of champagne, and sleek women in satin jumping into the pool, beads flying furiously.
Excellent Location. Fantastic Views. Glamorous Rooms.
This hotel delivered on all fronts! –– I'll definitely stay here again!
My advice: Pack a bottle of Tanqueray to float into the roaring-20's feel of this hotel! And prepare to be "zozzled."
