Arlanda Express Review - (ARN)
Stockholm's Airport City Express
The Arlanda Express is a slick, modern train that links Stockholm's international airport with its Central Station. I had the pleasure of taking it recently - and here is my review:
Ticketing and Timing
There is no shortage of trains. The first one leaves the airport at 5AM --- the last one at 1AM. There are 4-6 departures per hour - and the journey takes about twenty minutes. In no time at all I arrived at Central Station in the heart of Stockholm.
Some people complain that the tickets are a bit steep at about $33 USD each way -- but this is really a reasonable price in Sweden. Everything in this country is mega expensive: a Big Mac is $7 USD. Getting a ticket was easy. I bought one advance over the internet. It was valid for the entire day, so I didn't worry about catching a specific train. Once on-board, all I had to do was show the conductor my confirmation code and the card I used to purchase.
However -- I could have purchased my tickets upon arrival from an automated machine on the platform (or from the ticket kiosk).
This train is cool! The seats on the Arlanda Express were super slick, roomy and comfortable. The train also had a hip mini lounge car with tables and outlets for computers. The lounge had a Scandic Mod feel to it - -and the views were fantastic.
I was there in the middle of summer - so I had no need to wait inside prior to departure However, it's a little colder in Stockholm during the winter so there's a separate seating area at Central Station.
I loved it - and wouldn't hesitate to use it again! It was a quick, convenient way to transfer to Stockholm - and I adored its Nordic glam vibe!
