Macau: Euro-Asian Side Trip (MFM)
If you're in Hong Kong for work or pleasure - -you MUST take a side trip to Macau. It's a short 55 minute ride by turbo-jet ferry. One minute you are in the heart of Asia - and the next in a former European outpost. It's a completely surreal experience not to be missed - and the city is overflowing with charm and excitement!
The best way to take in all the sites is to just walk around. Start off in Senado Square and make your way to the Ruins of St. Pauls....and veer off into some side streets along the way to unearth all kinds of beautiful architecture. The ruins are truly breathtaking. They are at the top of a steep hill and as you climb - the view becomes completely iconic.
At night, Macau sparkles. Gambling has been legal here since the 1850's and the island is known as the Monte Carlo of the Orient. There are over 30 casinos - most of which rival any to be found in Las Vegas. Gaming is seven times (yes 7X) bigger than in Sin City. I loved walking around and exploring all of the glam in these casinos.
NOT TO BE MISSED
You can't leave Macau without sampling one of the famous local specialties - -the Portuguese style egg tart. This is a must-eat for any foodie and visitor! For connoisseurs, the Macau egg arts are different than the Cantonese variety. These ones have a signature caremalized, slightly burnt, top that tastes like creme brulee.
