London - Ballet, Music & Culture (LHR)
London is always a treat to visit - -no matter what you are looking for in a city. There are non-stop sights, food, and entertainment. The city is a complete feast for the eyes - and one of the funnest things to do is just walk around. There is something special on every corner.
If you are looking for an injection of "High Culture" London is sure to satisfy any addict of ballet, music or museums. The Royal Opera house is a mecca to many - featuring some of the world's best artists on the operatic and dance fronts. If you are lucky enough to nab tickets to a performance - make sure you show up early enough to enjoy a chilled champagne in the Paul Hamlyn Hall. It's one of the most glamorous spots in London to people watch. The architecture is simply stunning.
Some of my favorite cultural spots include:
- The National Gallary which features superstar works by Vermeer, Rembrant, van Gogh, Carravagio, da Vinci, and Monet (to name only a few). Save time for this place!
- The British Museum with it's Elgin Marbles, Rosetta Stone - and other show stopping artifacts
- The Academy of St. Martins in the Fields- which is a great place for music almost any night of the week.
- And if you are a lover of musicals - you must not miss a show in the West End!
If you have a night out at The Academy of St. Martins in the Fields - arrive early to have dinner in the Crypt (!). It's a self service cafe - -but it's full of charm. You will dine under brick vaulted ceilings, with historic tombstones beneath your feet. Save lots of room as the food is fantastic.
