Berlin Weekend (TXL)
I just came back from a long weekend in Berlin. I absolutely love traveling to that city. No one should miss it on a trip to Europe. You can immerse yourself in history AND a hipster environment. I make sure I get there at least two or three times a year. It is a fantastic place to visit in all seasons.
Some of my favorite things to do include:
- Exploring Museum Island where you can find everything from European Art to monolithic sculptures from Byzantium
- Going to a beerhall to have a hefty piece of schnitzel!
- Walking under the Brandenburg Gates (both at night and during the day).
- Taking a side trip to Potsdam where you can explore unbelievable gardens and summer palaces.
One thing you can't miss in Berlin though is the NIGHTLIFE!! The city gives New York and Paris a run for the money - and no visit would be complete without it. There is something for everyone (no matter what!). Don't book an early morning flight - unless you are prepared to go straight to the airport in your disco clothes.
It's easy to get from Tegal airport to most places in Mitte for as little as 2.70 Euros. The TXL JetExpress bus leaves every ten minutes and makes its way to Alexanderplatz in just under 30-40 minutes.
When you are in Germany - the best place to stay is Motel One. They usually cost under 79 Euros a night and they have a designer-cool vibe - especially in the lobby. I like the one at Alexanderplatz as it's connected to all the major transportations hubs and it's easy to get around.
