Queen Mary 2 - Dining
OK – I totally ate too much on this crossing -– and I am paying the price, but it was absolutely worth it!! Dining on the Queen Mary 2 is a grand culinary experience – and there is no shortage of places to feast.
The Britannia Restaurant
The Britannia was inspired by the original Queen Mary - and looks like something right out of The Poseidon Adventure (from the multi-levels to glass ceiling). This is the main dining room for most people on the ship -– with fantastic menus: morning, noon and night. Service is so top notc, that you get the feeling you're on a bygone era steamer!
The Kings Court
The Kings Court may be the 'buffet' establishment – but make no mistake – they whip up fantastic meals. There is food in this place 21 hours a day -– so you won't go hungry! Most people go there for breakfast which features smoked salmon, omelet stations, healthy options and traditional British fare. However, at night they roll out all the stops with gravlax, shrimp boats, terrine towers, cheese trollies, and a multitude of tempting delights. Normally I dismiss the buffet on most cruises - but the King Court definitely got my caloric attention from me on this crossing!
The Corinthia Lounge
I was a complete fan of dining in the Corinthia Lounge. They have what they call 'snacks' at various times of the day - but these are really gourmet versions of full meals. I especially loved the Scandinavian-themed treats featured at noon. Get there early, to secure a table, select a vintage from their extensive Spanish wine list, and graze!
But Wait - There's More...
If you're STILL hungry - there are more places to get nourishment including:
- The Golden Lion - Traditional pub fare
- The Veranda Restaurant - A "fine dining" establishment, which charges a separate fee for lunch and dinner (For me the Britannia was 'fine' enough, so I never made it to the Veranda.)
- The Kings Court Waiter Service Area - International cuisine (India, Asia, Italy, etc...) that changes each night - again with a separate fee.
- Room Service - - yes - - they have room service, if you're still hungry after all that food -- but heaven help you if you are in that situation!
Bottom line - - I loved the food on this cruise - and was impressed with all of the options! I should have visited the gym more while on the ship - but that would have interfered with my feasting time!!
